Veggie Art Back Again This Year!
|
|
This year’s 93rd annual celebration of Farmers Fair will be the third year for a contest that encourages you to play with your food.
The idea behind Veggie Art is to create a 3 dimensional sculpture using fruit and/or vegetables. The artwork must be made exclusively from fruits and vegetables either in whole or parts. Carving on surface of fruits and vegetables is allowable. Only parts of fruits and vegetables must be visible. No glue or supports such as toothpicks or pins are to be visible. Work may be displayed on a surface such as a board or tray but only decoration made entirely of fruit and vegetable matter will be judged. The board or tray cannot be painted or decorated in any other manner. Entire installation must fit inside a 16”x 16”x 16” area. Submitted artwork will be judged on overall artistic merit, cleverness of subject, technique, originality, and skill. Anything commonly referred to as a fruit or a vegetable may be used in whole or in part (nuts, roots, & mushrooms are also acceptable). Fruit and vegetables may be either home grown or store bought. For best results entries should be submitted as close to the Thursday 11:00 am deadline as possible. Judging takes place at 11:00 am so your fresh veggie creations will still be in tiptop unwilted shape.
Inspiration for this type of artwork can be found in the art produced by Saxton Freymann and Joost Elffers in their books Play With Your Food, How Are You Peeling, and Food for Thought. Copies of some of these books will be available to view at the Dillsburg Public Library. There are also images on the Internet by these two artists as well as many others. Gaffney Electrical Contracting and Paul Tucker Carpentry are sponsoring this event.
Prizes for the contest are as follows:
First prize- $100, Second prize- $75, and Third prize- $50
